Cowan at Monroe Central Baseball

Cowan tops Monroe Central

Cowan scored two in the first inning, one in the second and three runs in the fourth to take a lead over Monroe Central Thursday evening. The Golden Bears rallied for two runs in the sixth, but came up short 6-2.

Cowan’s Alex Delk struck out 13 batters. Jon Miller had three hits for the Blackhawks, including a triple and double, and Aaron Wells had two hits.

Kaiser Phillips had three hits and Jordan Bowmer drove in the two runs for the Golden Bears.

Yorktown at Monroe Central Softball

Yorktown’s Lauren Grant and Grace Lumpkin combined for a total of 16 strikeouts as the Tigers defeated Monroe Central 4-3 Thursday evening in softball.

Grant gave up two runs on three hits while striking out seven and walking two in four innings. Lumpkin closed by striking out nine in her three innings. She gave up one run on three hits and walked only one.

The Yorktown’s four runs came on nine hits. The Tigers had five errors.

For the Golden Bears Haley Fields and Katie Gaddis each had two hits. Monroe Central. Monroe Central’s three runs came on six hits. They committed two errors. Kendra Buckminster pitched a complete game for Monroe Central.

This Saturday the Golden Bears will host the Monroe Central Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m.

Will Over Pain

After qualifying for semi-state with a win in his initial regional match, Blackford High School’s 220-pound wrestler Isaac Rogers injured his shoulder in the next match and was forced to injury-default his remaining matches that day.

Over the next week, Rogers, his parents, coaches and doctor struggled with the decision of whether he should try to compete despite the injury.
